伸びつづける部屋The Growing Hair Room

A part of the body is transformed into something familiar to us.
What if all the objects around us with a variety of materials are entirely made of the same material?
What if we are surrounded by a material that can produce sexiness or terror, and which is regarded as a symbol of youth and beauty?
I didn’t have such an exaggerated speculation.
But we were confident that it would be a great photo if we could take in one shot.
And we made it.
I remember the looks of everyone with full of anxiety at the first meeting.
But at the end, their anxious looks
gradually changed to smiles.
I shall never forget that.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude
to everyone for the assistance.

This room, decorated with all-natural hairs without the help of computer graphics,
possesses a quiet yet massive life
force and quantity of heat.
We were intent on taking photos without combining images on computer
and wanted to surprise people.
We also wanted to show a scene which
they have never seen before.
As we combed the knots out of the fairly disobedient hair,
we groped for a way to craft the room’s
interior meticulously one strand at a time.
The accomplished room of hair was
a sight to see.
I felt euphoric when I saw it with my own eyes.
This project allowed me to go back to the starting point of my career
and I realized again,
“I love to design something that requires
sweat and hard work.”
It took three whole days for this shoot.
I am very grateful to Mr.Ikeda, the photographer, and all the other members who worked
so diligently with us to produce this work.
