Some people are prone to getting the chills
and freaking out when they find themselves somewhere with a bad vibe.
I can sleep anywhere like a baby,
even in a huddle in a shabby old ship,
so unfortunately I don’t have the ability
to feel this “vibe.”
However, when I think about it with a clear head, I wonder whether there are places
where nothing has happened.
Wherever you go you can always find some drama, so perhaps subconsciously I have chosen these kinds of places to shoot photos.
Thinking that inspired me for these shots.

I recently read an article about a suicide in
a nearby park. It didn’t say exactly where
it happened. Afterward, I felt this singular uneasiness anywhere in a park, even where there was nothing at all.
What is this phenomenon?
Wanting to replicate this sensation in a different location, I sought out unreal places where something unusual happened, or could happen, and shined a light on them.
I figured the photos would be unsettling, but some people actually feel the opposite about them. Either way, the subjects of the photos
I prepared deep in the forest were quite beautiful. I wanted to store on film the “aura,”
so to speak, of a work of art that can only exist
in the “here” and “now,” as Walter Benjamin would say, and the photographer and I were fully absorbed in the project.
