You will notice everyone has different idea when you talk about “love”.
I think it depends on how you feel
about the subject.
When I hear the word “love,” the first thing that comes to mind is beautiful scenery.
To me, it is synonymous with
a beautiful thing that is rational and moral. However, when I considered how to represent that word in a photograph,
I wanted to use a picture to portray
the instinctive desire and raw emotion,
the ugliness at the root of it.

「男と女、食欲と性欲の関係」
このご時世で、二元論でものごとを語るなんて、
少し陳腐な話に感じるかもしれない。
しかし、男と女では、食欲と性欲の関係性が
少し異なるとされている。
男は、空腹になると飢餓感と同時に性欲が高まり、
女は、満腹になり、満たされると性欲が高まる。
これは、男は、脳の中で性欲中枢と摂食中枢が
隣接しているからで、
女は、脳の中で性欲中枢と満腹中枢が
隣接しているからである。
その知識を念頭に入れた上で、
もう一度、写真を見てもらえればと思います。
今あなたが空腹かどうかでも、
きっと感じ方が変わると思います。
そして、あなたが男か女か、
また別の性別かによっても。

“The relationship between men & women,
hunger & lust”
In today’s world, discussion from a dualistic perspective has perhaps become a bit of
a tired subject.
Be that as it may, there is a slight difference between the male-female and hunger-lust relationships.
When a man becomes hungry, that desire is accompanied with increased sexual yearning.
When a woman becomes full,
her lust increases once satisfied.
This happens because the man’s libido is
adjacent to his hunger nerve center,
while in a woman, the libido is located next to
the nerve center for satiation.
I would like you to keep this in mind as you look
at these photos once again. Your feelings will
differ depending on whether you are hungry or not.
And your feelings will also depend on
whether you are a man or woman,
or perhaps even a different gender.

「愛」なんて問われても、
それぞれに感じ、思うでしょう。
わたしは「愛」という言葉をきいたとき、
美しい情景を第一に思い浮かべる。
わたしにとって、理性的で道徳的な
美しいものの代名詞とも言える。
しかし、その言葉を写真で表現しようと
考えたとき、本能的な欲望や生々しさ、
醜いものが根底に存在している事を、
画として表現したいと思った。
